Description: Snow activities and highlights of the festival are 2 days of Snowmobile Snowcross Races in Downtown Frankfort’s Open Space Park. How about some “Bowling on Main St”? Kid’s games and activities plus a Winter Parade where the ice shanties and sleds are decorated and those that participate by marching in the parade are wearing cross-county skis and snowshoes. for more information cal 231-352-7251. Permaculture Pie Social and Square Dance at the Traverse City Senior Center. Bring your favorite pie to share and your dancing shoes! This is a family-friendly, multi-age gathering. $10 suggested donation to support both the senior center and the TC Permaculture Design Course.

Empire – Glen Arbor Winterfest

Glen Arbor host the Down by the Boone Dock’s Chili Cook-Off  from 12:00 – 3:00 pm.  This has become quite the event locally.  If you’re into fishing check out the Perch Fishing contest it starts at 7am till 1pm,  measure up at the Sportsman’s Shop next to the Boone Docks.  February 19th Saturday

Same day is the Empire Winterfest with a polar dip at 2:00pm at South Bar Lake for all those that don’t want to wait till Spring to get wet!  The Masonic Lodge on Front Street in Empire is having Portuguese Soup or Spinach Tortellini with Complimentary coffee or Hot Cocoa for $5.00 from 1-3pm.

Sleeping Bear Community Answers the Question What to Do?

It’s a busy weekend in the Sleeping Bear Area…sooo much to do!  Winterfest in Beulah topped off with fireworks on Crystal Lake. (detail posted below) February 10-13 (Thursday – Sunday) Comedy in the Traverse City. Valentine’s Weekend in Northern Michigan

What’s up in Northern Michigan? Looking to next weekend  there is a Comedy Festival, Micro Brew Festival, Vasa Ski Race and Fireworks on Crystal Lake. Philip A. Hart Visitors Center at Sleeping Bear Dunes Park

Sunday’s are just sort of a lazy day.  If you’re not one for being outside a trip to the Park’s Visitor center is a nice way to spend the afternoom.  It’s not that busy, like in the summer!  So here’s what’s going on at the visitor’s center.

Special Programs:  A free slide presentation, “Dreams of the Sleeping Bear,” offers a beautiful mix of photography, music and narration, while providing an initial orientation to the park.
Exhibits:  Museum exhibits explore the geologic, natural history, and human stories of the park.  An interactive touch-screen kiosk and large relief map provide general park information.
Facilities:  Eastern National Bookstore/sales area. Public restrooms, water fountain, pay phone (portable TTY available), assistive listening device at the information desk, closed captioning for the orientation slide show.(from the website)  Enjoy your day.
