RUN FOR THE FARMS! (and the lighthouses, log cabins, inns…actually all of the amazing historic properties in the Park)!
Come out to the farm for the 4th annual 5K run/walk through the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore supports preservation of the Park’s historic resources. The trail run is a loop course on the Bayview Trail, offering a unique tour of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District – “one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country”! The course meanders through the pastoral landscape of farmsteads from the late 1800s nestled among the hills, and along the shores of Lake Michigan. The start and finish points are at the Park’s historic Olsen farmstead which Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear restored in 2004.
Organized by Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear, a nonprofit partner of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Your participation supports a place we all love and care about.
Project Description: PHSB volunteers will make their fifth trek to North Manitou Island this August to spend 10 days working on the Katie Shepard Hotel on “Cottage Row”. We have hopes of restoring this for use once again as a boarding house for overnight rustic accommodations. Here’s an opportunity to enjoy North Manitou Island. We’ll be completing restoration of the exterior, and will continue major work on the interior restoration. We’ll also be doing vegetation removal. Participants will be coming and going depending on their availability. Volunteers must sign up for a minimum of two nights, three days work. Island projects are our most popular – so sign up soon! Space is limited. Registration is required.

“Quartet For The End Of Time” by the French mystic Olivier Messiaen is the 20th century’s most profound musical statement of Christian spirituality. This masterpiece was premiered in 1941 while Messiaen was held prisoner during World War II. He sketched the music after obtaining pencil and paper from a sympathetic guard. Inspired by the Biblical Book of Revelation, this music carries the listener beyond the horrors of a dread Apocalypse, among the vivid colors of nature’s song in the Next World, to a vision of Christ timeless, beyond tears. You will be awed and uplifted.
