Permaculture Pie Social and Square Dance at the Traverse City Senior Center. Bring your favorite pie to share and your dancing shoes! This is a family-friendly, multi-age gathering. $10 suggested donation to support both the senior center and the TC Permaculture Design Course.

Events in Traverse City – Sunday 2/13

Empire – Glen Arbor Winterfest

Glen Arbor host the Down by the Boone Dock’s Chili Cook-Off  from 12:00 – 3:00 pm.  This has become quite the event locally.  If you’re into fishing check out the Perch Fishing contest it starts at 7am till 1pm,  measure up at the Sportsman’s Shop next to the Boone Docks.  February 19th Saturday

Same day is the Empire Winterfest with a polar dip at 2:00pm at South Bar Lake for all those that don’t want to wait till Spring to get wet!  The Masonic Lodge on Front Street in Empire is having Portuguese Soup or Spinach Tortellini with Complimentary coffee or Hot Cocoa for $5.00 from 1-3pm.

Blues at the Bluebird in Leland

Like Music?  Well,  let’s Jazz it up a bit! The Bluebird located in downtown Leland will be hosting a fundraiser for the Leelanau Consevancy. The Annual Blues at the Bluebird concert will be held on Saturday February 19.  Enjoy a buffet dinner at 6:30 pm, concert at 8:00pm and the sounds of Mississippi Heat from Chicago.  Ticket are $35 and limited.  Call 256-9665, stop at the Conservancy office at 105 N First St in Leland or email gayle@theconservancy.com

Glen Arbor 3rd Annual Art from Michigan’s West Coast!

Happy Groundhog Day!  Well, I was wrong the Groundhog didn’t see his shadow today so Spring is coming early! Most likely a happy note for all. Lift your spirits this weekend after the arctic blast by enjoying some art and wine!

Glen Arbor Art Association kicks off the “Taste the Passion” wine tour weekend.  The Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor is hosting the wine and art open house at Mountain Flowers Lodge, with small plate tapas paired with wines from throughout the peninsula. This Event will benefit the Glen Arbor Art Association for class scholarship and their school art program. Homestead is offering a package with the event call 231-334-5000 for details at the Resort.  Ticket available at the door for $20 6-8 PM (Friday) the Lodge is located in the Village area at the Resort.

Also this weekend the Taste of Passion wine tour in Leelanau County. Tickets available online $30/ea @ www.lpwines.com.   Stay tuned- the 12th is a big weekend in the Sleeping Bear area!

Frankfort Mi Fundraiser

February 3 (Thursday) from 5-9 PM to raise money for the Shiver by the River Festival being held Feb 19-20.
Just so you know tomorrow is GroundHog Day! I predict more winter I hope I’m wrong!

M-22 Challenge in the Empire/Glen Arbor Area

For all the sports enthuiast  this is it.  Just thought I would write this up so you would have time for training.

This event involves a 2 mile run up the Sleeping Bear sand dunes, 17 mile bike ride around Little Glen and Big Glen and the final event is a One Paddle event on the water! Can you do it!   Here’s the details:  ‎2011 M22 Challenge registration opens March 1, 2011 at www.m22challenge.com only 400 spots!  The 3rd Annual Challenge takes place June 11th same day as the Leland Wine Festival!   Tonight the Spartans and Wolverines are playing basketball!  A little more exciting then this blog!
