Snowshoe Hikes in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park

Saturdays at the Lakeshore
Join a ranger for a different program every week. Topics and trails vary throughout the year to highlight the natural wonders and historic importance of the National Lakeshore. Meet at the visitor center first, then travel to the trail. When conditions are right, snowshoe walks are presented and snowshoes are loaned for free. Reservations are not required, but are suggested if you bring a group or need snowshoes in winter. Call 231-326-5134 x328 for details.

There are a few places in the area to participate in the Area.

Jan 7 Green Point Preserve 11AM in Elbert, MI  2.5 miles through wood and hills with spectacular viewing continuing down to Lake Michigan.

Jan 28 Arcadia Dunes

Feb 12 Glacial Hills

Feb 14 Arcadia Dunes

Feb 25 Arcadia Dunes  for thesw 11AM Meet at Old Baldy lot – 3 miles over open land , forest and dunes to views of Lake Michigan. Bring snowshoes and H20. Dress for weather and wind. Maps and info available at: www.gtrlc.org or 231-929-7911

Join us Downtown empire for a night of Live Music and Shopping!

7PM-LATE

Music provided by Bo Bossa a local a four piece ensemble that plays swing, jazz, blues, Latin, fusion and whatever else they feel like playing!  The stores involved will provide refreshments and stay open late.

Friday July 15th

Join Sleeping Bear Surf and Kayak in Downtown Empire Open Space at dusk for a free movie!

Saturday July 16th

ANCHOR DAY FUN RUN 9 AM

Registration begins at 8:45 at the picnic pavilion on Empire beach.The first 30 competitors will receive a free T-shirt!

EMPIRE ANCHOR DAY PARADE 2 PM

This years theme is  “Anything Goes” so dig out those decorations and Join the Parade that is so nice it goes around twice. Parade Lineup 1:30 at Johnson Park 

LIONS CHICKEN BBQ 2-8PM EMPIRE TOWN HALL

A half a chicken and all of the extras for an adult is $12 and a child sized serving is $6. Proceeds go to support local Lions projects as well as international sight and hearing programs and diabetes education.

Sunday July 17th

WASS.U.P.  9 am Empire Public Beach (Weather permitting)                                                                                               Join Sleeping Bear Surf and Kayak for a stand-up paddle session.

 

 

Frankfort’s Winter Festival

Frankfort’s Winter Festival / 3rd annual Shiver by the River! February 19-20th. Get ready for snow activities and a 2 day Snowmobile Snocross Race in downtown Frankfort. This is an event for the children as well. “Bowling on Main St” and a Winter Parade with decorated ice shanties and sleds.  Those marching in the parage will be wearing cross-county skis and snowshoes.   Need more details call 231-352-7251
