Porterhouse Productions Presents Deep Blue Water!

Deep Blue Water
Samba Batucada
March 6, April 3, May 1 (with a party or performance!)

Deep Blue Water Samba Batucada is a newly forming samba drumming group based out of Traverse City, Michigan. Samba Batucada is a parade style of drumming from Brazil, using snare drums, bass drums, cowbells, shakers, and other percussion instruments.

Marc Alderman will be teaching Samba Batucada drumming at The Good Work Collective this spring. The class fee is based on a sliding scale with a suggested cost of $20. No one will be turned away due to a lack of funds and there are also work exchange opportunities. Please contact Marc directly if you are interested in a work trade.

If you have never held a pair of drumsticks before, there will be a technique class from 7-7:30pm. A full ensemble class will take place from 7:30-9pm. Bring your drumsticks, drum pads, earplugs, tape recorders, snare drums, and any Brazilian percussion instruments you might have lying around the house. Instruments will also be provided.

Deep Blue Water Samba Batucada School is great for: hand drummers who are interested in trying something different; drum set players who want to add a new feel to their repertoire; school age percussionists who are looking for a new ensemble experience; marching band drummers who want to add a little swing to their playing; and anyone who is fired up about Brazilian music or group drumming! No previous experience is necessary but come ready to learn.  Details

Fall Festival in Frankfort October 8, 2011 Saturday 11AM – 4PM

APPLE TIME IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN

It’s that time of the year, fall is in the air, squash, pumpkins and apples abound at the fruit stands and markets. Enjoy a ride down M-22 take in all the colors and stop by an apple farm!

My favorite apple farm is Kilcherman’s Christmas Cove Farms
(11573 N. Kilcherman Rd., Northport). Historic antique apples, old–fashioned apple cider and gift boxes can be found at this farm market. In fact, you’re likely to find more than 240 varieties of apples. Follow M–22 north to Northport, then M–201 to CR–640 to Kilcherman Road. Look for the windmill at the first farm you come to. (231–386–5637)

Opportunity to get a variety of apples to eat and make apple pie of course.  My favorite apple for apple pie is the Northern Spy apple.  I have use the Wolf River apple which is good but not easy to find.  I did find them at Kilchermans!  My son-in-law prefers granny smith for his apple pies. ( pastry chef!)    Even better I love to mix a sweet, sour and a spicy apple for the best filling..   Sorry I’m boring you!  Enjoy the cider too!  Check out the Wineries on the way.

Looking for a Bridge Walk on Labor Day

Thought you might want to walk a bridge over Labor Day?  Mackinaw Bridge to long? ( 5 MI)

How about walking the Leland Bridge or the Glen Lake Narrows Bridge?  Show up at Noon and join the crowds.

Hope you enjoyed the Summer…Trees are changing.  Glen Lake water temperature went from it’s highest 84 degrees to now it’s around 74 degrees.  Jump in now before it’s freezing.
